The Elysia Mpressor is a musical, flexible and reliable compressor that is calling for experimentation. As well as being able to enhance your sound with punch, width, depth, and transparency, the Mpressor also offers a host of tools for creative processing. The Mpressor features an audio filter that can be used to creatively shape your sound. It features a Niveau audio filter that specialises in moulding the overall sonic character of a track effectively without the complicated control. Classic shelving filters and fully parametric filters would usually be too much or too limited, and that's where the Niveau Filter comes in. The filter is an all pass variant with a flat frequency response that intelligently adjusts its phase according to the setting of the frequency controller. With this filter it is much easier to alter the character of a track (bright vs. dark), whilst still retaining an open and dynamic sound, something that standard equalisers lack. Mpressor also features external sidechain that allows you to accent the compressor with groove and pump. This allows the compressor's signals to not be triggered from the regular audio inputs, but instead by different signals which are fed into the additional sidechain input connectors. This lets you use compression exactly on time or out of time, which can then be varied on the fly, making static material sound much more interesting and full of energy. Conveniently, the lower frequencies are cut off at 80Hz to keep the effect as balanced as possible.
The Mpressor is filled with creative possibilities. Onboard, the Mpressor features negative ratios, which is a great tool for creating cool groovy 'pumping', backwards sounds, expansion effects, gating effects and more. At a negative ratio, the characteristic curve bends and returns back down after crossing the threshold, meaning the louder the input, the quieter the output. The Anti Log is another function that can help to create groovy effects. With a normal release curve, it follows a standard linear (logarithmic) progress to give you transparent results. However, with anti log on the release curve uses an anti-logarithmic course to produce a creative dynamic effect. The curve will stay the same at the beginning, then become much faster at the end. With a touch of a button these extreme and creative effects can be easily experimented with. When used together with the negative ratios, cool pumping effects can be enhanced. Additionally, the Mpressor also features a gain reduction limiter that is unusually placed in the control path of the compressor, limiting the control voltage according to the setting of the GR Limit controller. With this, loud parts of your track will keep their dynamics and not be compressed beyond the limit of the Gain Reduction Limiter. This can be ideal for ducking or upward compression.
The Auto Fast function provides semi automation, or perfect attack on the basis of the value set by the user. It's a great way to glue parts of a mix together. Usually, if a very short attack time is used, the compressor will catch short peaks, but will also process the sustaining signal which can result in audible distortion. The longer settings will reduce distortion but then it will be too slow for catching fast impulses. In Auto Fast mode, the compressor is lightning fast only when it's needed and adapts to the currently right setting automatically.
In true Elysia style, the Mpressor is composed of discrete circuitry throughout its audio paths, power supply, sidechain and driver for the LED metre. Original circuitry has been specially designed to deliver outstanding clarity. It constantly operates in permanent class-A mode, removing any crossover distortion and keeping the sound character wide, open and transparent. Mpressor features VOVOX sound conductors to keep the sound vivid, dynamic and punchy. These special conductors enhance every part of the frequency range with minimal losses, making your sound brilliant, tangible, dynamic and powerful.
"Its low distortion, ultra-transparent circuitry makes it perfectly suited to mastering and mixing in the traditional sense, while those weapons-grade extras make it invaluable for beefing up drums or bass — or just about anything else you want to energise. The range of sounds goes way beyond the natural, but then that's the whole point!" Sound On Sound
