Jensen JE-115K-E transformer mic preamp
Elevate your music productions with the 4K B's preamp section, bringing lush non-linear harmonics and saturation to your tracks. The mic preamp stage comes with automatic gain compensation, which means you can easily dial in harmonics to achieve the desired effect without affecting your levels.
With the PRE function turned on, the signal passes through the JE-115K-E Transformer mic pre-amp before the INPUT TRIM, allowing you to add anything from gentle saturation to rich distortion. You can access the INPUT TRIM control, which is equivalent to a 'line input trim' on a console. This element provides a transparent signal path with up to ±20 dB of gain, so you can achieve the desired level adjustments.
With the MIC function, you can add up to +20-70 dB of automatically-compensated gain through the transformer gain stage. This feature enables you to push the input signal and add harmonics and saturation, without damaging the levels. Bring added warmth, character and texture to your tracks with the 4K B's preamp section - it's perfect for taking your music to the next level!
The original 4000-series EQ circuit
Unlock the musicality and innate character of the original 4000-series EQ circuit from the SL 4000 B console, a precursor to the famous 02 ‘brown knob’ design. The 4000-series EQ circuit comes with constant bandwidth parametric mid-bands, making it ideal for shaping bass and drums. The circuit's four EQ bands are enhanced with low- and high-pass filters, sporting a 12 dB per octave roll-off rate.
These features allow you to shape soundscapes and explore new sonic possibilities, whether you're mixing rock, pop, or electronic music. No matter the genre or style you're aiming for, the SL 4000 B's EQ circuit presents a profoundly musical rendering that brings out the best in your mix. Experience an unparalleled sonic character and tonality with the 4000-series EQ circuit, and bring your music to life!
Channel dynamics based on the SSL Bus Compressor
The 4KB plug-in module includes a featured channel dynamics module that is unique to the 4000 E and 9000-series channels. The compressor design is circuit topological and based on the iconic SSL Bus Compressor. The module has peak detection capabilities, as well as a sidechain VCA in a feedback loop. This ensures reliable control over peak signals, providing perfect dynamics control and detection when mixing any instrument in your mix. With this level of control over dynamics processing, you can tweak and fine-tune your soundscapes with precision and ease.
Create smooth vocals
Just like the original hardware, SSL 4KB Channel Strip repurposes the compressor for broadband compression triggered by sibilance for detailed de-essing processing. Fixed to a 10:1 ratio, the de-esser is filtered with the side-chain input and features a variable release based on the input signal, running between 30-50ms, much faster than what is traditionally included on SSL dynamics processors, resulting in a smoother and more natural de-essing.
Modelled dbx 202 ‘black can’ VCA fader
Incorporate warmth into your mix with the dbx 202 ‘black can’ VCA-modelled fader. By driving the fader to its limit, you can introduce a subtle saturation at the output. You can also add harmonics by increasing the gain and fine-tuning the output using the output trim control. The output trim control helps to level out the additional gain introduced during the saturation process, to provide a clean output without distortion. The fader is responsible for controlling the final output signal of the plug-in, giving you control over the mix's colour and texture.
Scale your processing to fit your needs
Boasting under-the-hood, internal processing, engaging the HQ (High Quality) mode button activates intelligent oversampling. Perfect for scaling the CPU efficiency, the SSL 4KB will deliver a closer approximation of a continuous analog signal when HQ is switched in, lowering the processing power of your plug-in when this is disengaged, making it more friendly to lower-powered computers.
Freedom to route your way
Going above and beyond what was ever possible with the hardware console, SSL 4KB Channel Strip offers routing configurations. Here, you can re-order the filters, EQ and dynamic processing blocks to suit the desired signal flow in your chosen track. With a range of preset flows, you can drastically alter the response of each module for a plethora of tones to explore.
Reviews
"In general, I found the B's EQ to sound like the console I remember: effective EQs that can carve smoothly or radically; just fantastic for dialling in midrange instruments and fat sounding vocals and then easily pump up a set of drums!" - Music Connection
"After Instantiating the 4K B plug-in across all drum tracks in a working mix, I could immediately hear the difference in fullness and, frankly, quality when compared to a third-party SSL channel strip plug-in, one I have used for years." - TapeOp
