The Flora Orchid is crafted from a range of carefully selected tonewoods including spruce for the top-wood, a mahogany neck, maple back and sides, and rosewood fingerboard, which delivers a stunning dynamic range, bright attack, rich-warmth, and a well-balanced guitar. Mahogany is used a lot in the acoustic world because it is relatively economical, durable, attractive, easy to work with, and resonant. Mahogany contains distinct character of a soft warmth, but is well balanced with a bite of its own. Maple is used to build the back and sides, projecting a distinct bright tone, good sustain, plenty of bite. Maple is generally used for slimmer built guitars as it really sings bright highs, and maintains a strong upper mid-range. The organic nature of the wood makes each Luna guitar uniquely different, you will find each guitar has a slightly unique tone to one another, this has become signature of Luna guitars. The Luna Flora Orchid projects a well-rounded brilliant sound that gives the Luna guitars the distinct character guitarists crave.
The parlour shape was originally designed to be small and comfortable enough to play sat in an arm chair or on a front porch. Today, the parlour shape covers a wide spectrum of guitars, from traditional western styles to electro-acoustic one-of-a-kind boutique builds. Parlour guitars are smaller than concert shaped guitars but with an elongated body, the elongated body provides an increase in volume without increasing the size of the instrument completely. Because of their smaller bodies, parlour guitars tend to have tones that emphasize the midi section. The parlour cutaway shape ensures a comfortable playing experience, especially for smaller framed people due to its slimmer body. The cutaway shape provides easy access to more challenging chords higher up the fingerboard.
The mahogany neck topped with a rosewood fingerboard that delivers a warm, bright, and sparkly tone that really shines through when using finger picking techniques. The neck is specially designed by Luna to ensure a comfortable playing experience. The reason why many acoustic guitar necks are made from mahogany is because the wood responds greatly to picking techniques, strumming, and various finger techniques with equal ease. The Flora Orchid has a classic white finish, and exclusive mother of pearl moon phase fingerboard markers, providing you with a guitar of outstanding Luna beauty.
The Flora Orchid uses an on-board Luna SL3 preamp with built in tuner meaning you can take your Flora Orchid to the stage and impress crowds with its gorgeous tonal properties. The preamp is very simple and easy to use, just plug into an amplifier, change your settings to personal preference, and simply play away. The built in tuner enables players to tune their guitars on the go, and quickly re-tune in-between songs.
Yvonne Villiers is an accomplished stained-glass artist who envisioned Luna guitars. Her inspiration for a line of guitars designed to maximise playing comfort came from her mother, Hilda Villiers, a bassist for over 40 years.
Whilst watching her mum on stage, Yvonne couldn't help but notice the massive struggle her mum had whilst playing. With her mum being petite and using such a heavy instrument, she used to complain of how hard it was to be a woman and try to play these big bass guitars. Yvonne then questioned if there were others like her mum that struggled with the same problems and pains. She came up with the idea of a woman specific guitar, uniquely tailored to fit their bodies, their hands, and their musical styles.
Yvonne moved on to created Luna guitars, a line of guitars made for female musicians of all ages and crafted with luminous visual beauty to engage women's minds and spirits along with their talent. Yvonne already had brilliant artistic skills and use of colour, she then applied the same techniques as she did with her award winning stained glass work to her new line of guitars. She is known for using rich colours that shimmer and shine with every movement providing an eye-catching design along with the great musical tones Luna guitars deliver.
Yvonne's design expertise has led so many men to respond to Luna's well-crafted, spirit-engaging instruments that the company now creates guitars for both female and male musicians of all ages.
