The Malekko Richter Dual Borg Filter is a unique Eurorack-format filter module that utilises two different Borg filters to achieve a highly unique sound. The Malekko Borg Filter provides you with two-channels of Borg filter, with each channel boasting is own character and tonality. The two filter neither sound or react the same, instead providing a versatile audio processor, combined to achieve some truly ground-breaking results. The filters are ideal for a range of applications from modulation for VCOs, to sound experimentation and more. The core of the filter features a vactrol, combining light sensors and light resistors to deliver different sounds and sonic traits.
The Borg filters themselves provide two different tonal characteristics, with each filter providing a different way to affect your input signal. The vactrol core is known for its relatively slow response, creating a natural decay. When used as a low pass gate, the Borg will act both as a filter and a VCA at the same time. This provides a signature sound that can only be heard to be believed. The Borg Filter Module is also highly versatile, acting as a 12dB filter when used in frequency mode, with a powerful yet rich resonance. The result is everything from subtle warmth to roaring and powerful tones. The module also features VCA switches, allowing you instantly change between the different modes. The Borg I (left side) provides a slower and more refined response, providing a more mellow and natural sound. The Borg II (right side) provides a faster and more aggressive response.
The vintage-style aesthetic of the faceplate is reminiscent of vintage modules from the late 80s, utilising notched attenuators for optimal precision. Each side (filter) of the module features its own dedicated outputs as well as an audio input and two CV frequency inputs. The signal path is also selectable using the button toward the bottom of the module, allowing you to select between Series or Parallel mode. There is also a continuously adjustable low pass to high pass control, allowing you to blend between the two for a notch filter type of effect.
