The ENGL Z-16 Sound Wizard Module is designed to mount in the back of the Invader-II amplifier head. The module provides access to every gain and voice mode from the front panel. It lets you set every switch independently, for a different sound setting whenever you change the amp channel. The module radically expands the Invader-II's tone setting functionality and allows you to preset any of the voice switches; this means that they can be set to instantly switch on or off when you change channels on the amp. The Z-16 is simple to install, requiring only a screwdriver and a single cable connection. The module doesn't make the Invader-II sound any better or worse, but it does give you an incredible level of control over the amp's functions. The Z-16 Sound Wizard

The Z-16 is a switch control module that easily mounts in the Invader-II Guitar Amplifier Head and radically expands its control functionality. The module has 16 DIP switches, and each DIP switch has 6 rocker switches. The Z-16 lets you preset any of the amplifier's voice or gain switches so that they can be instantly turned on or off when you change channel. These presets let you fine-tune each amplifier channel so that you get the exact voicing options you desire. This greatly enhances the user-experience of the Invader-II amplifier, and is a tone-tweaker's dream come true.

A Common Amplifier Problem

At its heart, the Z-16 Sound Wizard Module is simply a device for turning the Invader-II's front panel switches on and off. It aims to solve a simple problem, for example...

You may like the sound of the 'bright' switch turned on with channel 1. But what if you then switch to channel 2, and no longer want the bright switch active?

Usually this would require you to manually dis-engage the bright switch; not an ideal situation during a live performance.

The Z-16 lets you preset the bright switch to turn on when you select channel 1, and then turn off when you select channel 2, all without having to actually touch the bright switch itself.

Now imagine that you could do the same thing with every other voicing switch; allowing you to make them turn on or off by themselves when you change channel. This could let you preset every channel to have the ideal voicing or gain switch activated.

The Z-16 lets you do this and much more.

Total Control

  • The Invader-II amplifier has 4 channels
  • Each channel has 2 gain modes (low and high)
  • Each of those gain modes has 2 Sound Function modes (for a total of 16)
  • For each of the 16 amplifier Sound Functions, the Z-15 provides 6 switches
  • These 6 switches, in every Sound Function, turn the amplifier's voice and gain options on and off
