The Martin D-28 is an iconic guitar design that has been in use since 1931. Often imitated, the dreadnought guitar design gave acoustic players the volume and full-bodied tone they required, without being plugged into amplification. The large body proportion and easy playability made this guitar incredibly popular with bluegrass players and flat-pickers. The guitar continued to be popular with country players and transitioned to almost all styles of acoustic music. Now you can own a modern D-28 guitar and gain access to the same playing characteristics that made this guitar so prolific.
The dreadnought body shape has a large body designed for maximum projection and tone, created in an era without guitar amplification. The body shape gives a sonorous bass-response, balanced mids, and a crisply defined treble. This tonal signature is perfect for strummers, flat-pickers, and fingerpickers - an ideal choice of guitar for any genre of music.
The D-28 has a spruce-topped body which gives a bright and nuanced tone. The top is enhanced by forward-shifted bracing for more sustain and reponse to your playing dynamaics. The top is mounted on an Indian rosewood back and sides which gives a stunning aesthetic along with a dark edge to your tone and excellent projection.
The D-28's mahogany neck has a satin finish for a wonderfully smooth feel during long playing sessions. The ebony fingerboard provides a smooth left-hand playing surface, along with adding low-end articulation.
Acoustic Magazine reviewed the Martin D-28:
"I wouldn’t hesitate before taking this dreadnought out on a gig now and so I can only imagine how it will improve further down the road. It’s a player’s instrument; a workhorse with a proven track record and a voice that has its own niche in music history – and I’m pleased to settle any argument by saying that yes, Martin do still build ‘em like they used to!...
Pros: An icon and every notable singer songwriter’s favourite gigging companion
Overall: An exceptional instrument from a renowned maker at a price that buys you a piece of history without breaking the bank"
