Arguably the most important section in the I4 module, it's here that you'll be able to manipulate your external signals to modular levels and send it out to the envelope follower section. It's important before connecting any device that you ensure the gain is set to minimum and the correct type of signal is selected. If you're using a condenser microphone then now's a good time to turn on phantom power!
Once processed by the preamp, the signal will reach the envelope follower. This section takes the dynamic content of your audio signal and uses it to create an envelope that will manipulate other parameters. Use the response calls to automate the reaction time of the envelope to the dynamic changes in the audio signal. You'll find that when using faster settings, the envelope responds quicker to the audio, generating a signal that is similar to the original. When at lower rates, the follower creates weird and wonderful contours that are perfect for creating sustain.
