The germanium transistors found in the Chandler Limited Germanium Mono Pre-Amp/DI utilises a design created by Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke that incorporates classic germanium transistors in a Class A, transformer balanced circuit. The smooth yet pristine transistors are based on the earliest transistor designs by Neve, EMI, Telefunken and Fairchild, creating a balance between classic circuitry and modern innovations to ensure optimal audio quality. The Germanium Series itself runs on +40 volt power with a +34 output before clipping ensuring a smooth yet warm sound, usually found in vintage style circuits. The Chandler Limited Germanium Mono Pre-Amp/DI uses Chandler’s new custom wound transformer that combines the best parts from the St Ives and Gardners input and output transformers for truly exceptional performance.
The germanium transistors and Class A transformer balanced circuit ensure optimal audio quality throughout the unit, handling both instrument and microphones inputs with ease. Designed for the classic, vintage sound, the Chandler Limited gives you a warm yet clear sound palette delivering an organic and precise tone. The Gain/Germanium Drive control and Feedback control are linked together for an optimised performance. The Gain acts as standard gain level control, while the Feedback control works together with the Gain control to bring the best out of the Chandler Limited Pre-Amp. It works by adding a small bass boost while implemented a high-frequency roll-off for cleaner and more precise recordings.
The military-grade build of the Chandler Limited Germanium Preamp ensures maximum durability and performance value, housing the Class A internal circuitry in an all-metal chassis that is built to last. The ergonomic and streamlined layout features Gain and Feedback rotary controls on the front-panel which allows you to dial in the precise amount you require with ease. Also featured on the front panel is a DI unbalanced jack with an 100k input impedance, ideal for recording electric guitars and other high level instruments. The rear of the unit features an XLR connector which allows you to capture recordings from a microphone, plus the built-in Phantom Power allows you to use condenser microphones for studio quality recordings. Also included is a 10-segment LED VU meter, allowing you to easily monitor your level, even in low-light conditions. Additioanlly Pad and Thick switches have been included, with the 15dB Pad Switch allowing you to discover all the tonal variations the Germanium is capable of producing. The Thick switch adds a subtle low end rise, ideal for making guitars stand out even further.
