The ultra-lightweight two-micron ribbon responds quickly to small changes in a performance, helping preserve delicate vocals, soft strings, acoustic instruments and quieter musical passages. Its passive design adds no powered amplification inside the microphone, retaining an uncomplicated and natural ribbon character. With a sensitivity of 1.8 mV/Pa, the VR1 works best with a quiet microphone preamp capable of supplying plenty of clean gain. This combination allows subtle details and natural dynamics to remain clear during controlled studio sessions without pushing the microphone into an artificially bright or overly processed sound.

Many traditional ribbon microphones have a noticeably dark upper response. The VR1 uses a specially developed mechanical design to extend its response to 18 kHz while retaining the smoothness expected from a ribbon transducer. Cymbals, strings, acoustic instruments and guitar cabinets retain useful high-frequency definition without becoming sharp or brittle. Its overall 20 Hz to 18 kHz response also captures deep fundamentals and full midrange body. This produces a balanced recording that can sit naturally within a mix while requiring less corrective equalisation during detailed studio work.
